Light effects: sometimes hard, sometimes smooth as velvet
In August 2005, for the first time, the Academy was extensively lit up to put a wide variety of scenes in the correct light. At its first workshop, the Wendelin Sachtler Academy presented everything that needs to be taken into account with today's complex lighting systems, in order to achieve perfect results.
Each participant stood in the spotlight once and was lit with reporter and studio lighting, so that everyone could see from their own pictures the effects that different kinds of lighting can have (sometimes flattering, sometimes not!).

Valuable tips
The leader of the lighting workshop was no other than Michael Huss, DOP from New York. The internationally recognised photographer, with his long experience, was a major draw for the participants. Again and again, he was able to come up with valuable tips, not just for portrait lighting, but also for table top, pack shots, still life, advertising, portraits, reportage and documentaries. Shown in the best light Ways of improving outdoor filming were also practised. How do I film inside a car when the light outside is constantly changing? That was only one of the questions that participants were confronted with. However, as a result of training with the professional equipment and the exchange of experience and opinions, those taking part quickly found “enlightenment”. | |
