The old guard meets the
avant-garde
 Oscar premiere at the Wendelin Sachtler Academy: Walter Lassally is the first speaker to have won an Oscar (for “Zorba the Greek” in 1965). This outstanding cameraman with a world-wide reputation was invited to Munich by the Television and Film Academy to run a workshop for their students.

Do it with Sachtler
The “portrait lighting” workshop with Walter Lassally started off in the cinema of the Munich TFA. The famous cameraman used a show reel to illustrate particular lighting for different stars – how various optical approaches and methods of lighting are best suited for different faces. He also discussed his camera work on the film “A Taste of Honey” with the students. "We never had the chance to take so much time for portrait lighting before. The program for the next two days concentrated on practical exercises, with Lassally showing the students the basic principles of portrait lighting at the Wendelin Sachtler Academy Studio. Finally, the students did their own filming under his direction and were able to experiment at will with the top equipment at the Wendelin Sachtler Academy, without any limitations.
