Basic Workshop HDTV Workflow
From conception through to selection of technology, lighting design, mask and camera technology, and beyond to editing. Autumn 2008: Prof. Dr. Johannes Müller, former Professor at the HFF Munich, and cameraman and lighting designer Achim Bendix, are set to illuminate the different demands faced by users of HD and standard cameras – from a variety of angles. In addition to presenting the basic theoretical principles, the instructors will also provide vivid demonstrations using production examples, and encourage animated discussions in a workshop that will greatly enrich participants’ experiences.
The seminar will focus on: - Technical differences between HD and standard cameras
- Equipment technology and operation of menus
- Lighting design and cadrage: Layout in 16:9 and HDTV, including examples
- Object depiction in the image plane
- Camera support
- Practical exercises with follow-up evaluation, incl. an approx. 3-minute film production
- Post-production
After an introductory lecture by Prof. Müller, which provides participants with the necessary theoretical know-how, the practical core of the workshop begins: Scenes will be put in their proper light, in the studio and outdoors. Actors will be on hand to ensure that the seminar is carried out under realistic shooting conditions. And there will be exercises with different objects to round off the camera work. The subsequent cutting and editing gives immediate feedback on the results of the shoots, shows the differences between them, and highlights which workflow items still need improvement. The experience gained is then intensified in a subsequent round of discussions with experienced practitioners, ensuring that participants have a solid basis for working with HD technology in future.
Participants:
The workshop is aimed at camera operators, directors and production and editing staff who work with the new 16:9 format.
